Hello,

I am running Ubuntu on my home pc. I love it. No Windows Viruses or spyware etc. I have taken the time to learn about things like App Armor ( still learning ), Firefox add ons, ClamAV, Chkrootkit, ufw, etc.

Now, I want to develop on Flash. Well, I have found similar software for almost everything in Ubuntu like OpenShot and PhotoFilmStrip for doing home movies from pictures, GIMP for doing things that Photoshop would do, BlueFish for things that DreamWeaver would do. However, I cannot find a Flash equivalent. So, I wanted to run Windows XP in VirtualBox so that I could load up Flash. However, I don't want my Ubuntu system affected AT ALL. It's my nice peaceful friend who does not complain :-). Do I need to be concerned about anything on my Ubuntu system ( viruses, spyware, malware, etc. ) if I run Windows XP in VirtualBox?

The simple answer is no, windows viruses and malware will not effect Linux.

There are some Linux specific malware out there but the likelihood of contracting them is very slim, for peace of mind you can install a AV on linux such as Clam Av, and install the same in your Windows guest.

I run a Windows XP virtual machine all the time specifically to play with viruses and malware all the time ;-)
