Hi

I found this theme on www.gnome-look.com today, I really like it but I have some problems installing it. As I am fairly new to Ubuntu I have no idea how to install it.
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Avalon?content=109016

I downloaded the Avalon-Beryl/Compiz theme, and managed to get it work with Emerald. No problem there, the problem is that I do now know how to get the menu bar and transparrent like the in the photos provided in the link above.

Is there anyone who can help me with this ( idiotic ) issue?

It looks like a kubuntu theme. I am not sure if it will work. Gnome needs a theme file that ends in .tar.gz

Then you go to appearance and hit install

That desktop in the preview is definitely an older Kubuntu desktop (or another distribution using KDE 3.5).

here's a few transparency ideas to try out:

This is for the Unity Desktop:
If you are using the Unity desktop, you will need to install compizconfig-settings-manager and change the panel transparency in the Unity plugin.

All of the rest is for the Gnome2 Desktop ("Ubuntu Classic"):
Have you tried right clicking on an empty space of your panel to change the panel's transparency/opacity, or use a transparent image for your panel's background image? http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/15722.html

Here is a link on how to change panel transparency using CompizConfig-Settings-Manager. http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/true-transparency-for-gnome-panel.html

Here is a link showing how to fix broken transparent panels:
http://www.webupd8.org/2010/05/fix-transparent-vertical-and-large.html

At gnome-look.org you could look for a GTK 2.x theme with a transparent panel in the preview. GTK 2.x themes can be extracted to /usr/share/themes (for all users) or a hidden folder in your home holder called ".themes" (for your use only). You can also install it using the Appearance Preferences/Properties application in your system menu too.
