View Full Version : [xubuntu] Xubuntu running slow - Thunar or ext hdd?

I have just installed Xubuntu 11.04 on my Asus G1S laptop and have been happy except for when I start up Thunar to do some file transfers. Then my whole system bogs down.

At first I thought it was Firefox (Its memory usage used to grow and grow in windows) so I switched to Chromium. Same problem. So, then I ran nothing but Thunar and the system still slows down so much my mouse pointer even stalls.

Task manager shows gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor using some serious memory (600mb at one point). I googled this process and found a couple of threads alluding to some problems with NTFS drives in 9.04 but I didn't really understand the threads - they were too technical for me.

Is there a problem with my system or is this a known bug?
