I've been reading up on HDR imaging, and wanted to see if I could do HDR imaging by simply changing color spaces. So, for instance, if I have an image shown with Low Dynamic Range in sRGB color space, mapping it to another space for better range. Anyone know if this is even a sensible question, or is HDR imaging done in some other fashion?

Unfortunately it isn't a sensible question and you have to read up on HDR considerably more :) I would also advice you to read up on color spaces. Dunno what you read, but start with Wikipedia articles.

I'm sorry but the answer is no. You would need an image with multiple exposures (the definition of an HDRI) in order to have the information you need to tonemap (the process of using that data to create a more dynamic image). You can't just take a regular image and tonemap it... it doesn't have enough visual information. It's really not complicated... it's just hard to explain. :P
