Now what do you mean by "Three component"? I have just recently swited from Gentoo to Ubuntu. I was a long time Gentoo user until Ubuntu won me over! LOL.

Anyway .... Apt is comparable to Portage except you dont have to compile anything .... and the Gentoo portage was FAR more up to date than ANY of the Debian based repositories including Ubuntu. So in the reguards that Gentoo portage had TONS more software and is far up to date Gentoo wins.

BUT ... Apt has a much better system of handling dependencies than Gentoo had. From the command line you can have it remove not only the main package but all of the dependencies too. And debfoster makes it EXTREMELY easy to keep your system clean.

So all in all Apt is much better than Gentoo at handling packages although the Gentoo portage was far more up to date I take Ubuntu and Apt over Gentoo and Portage.
