hi,i'm a ubuntu novice.
i've bought a Toshiba Protege 3480ct which has no hard drive and no cd rom.
so after i've bought a new hard drive (what gb should i get) how do i install ubuntu onto the laptop ?

i have a external enclosure which i can connect to my windows 7 pc if i can install on hard drive that way.

i'm looking to use ubuntu just for the internet.
thanks

You can use whatever hard drive you can get your hands on. Ubuntu itself takes at the most 10 GB including swap file.

Post again when this is ready.

How much memory is in the computer?

it has 0.19gb (196608kb).

this is the maximum it can go

Then you should try Lubuntu rather than Ubuntu.

If the computer can boot from USB (which I doubt, though - check the BIOS), you don't need a hard drive. You can run Lubuntu straight from USB, but it will be slow.

Why sell it? Lubuntu is a great system.
