im trying to install ubuntu 11.04 (alongside windows 7) (tried 32 and 64 bit) on an AMD 890FX 850SB Asrock Deluxe5 mbrd however when the options appear there is no mouse pointer which i managed to get by with the keyboard untill i got to the resize partition dialouge box where i could not manipulate with keyboard.

Booting into live cd desktop still same problem, mouse is there IE when hovering over bits, the mouse over event triggers options by highlighting

tried the previous version live cd 10.04 which worked fine. Is there a work around to get a mouse pointer in 11.04? please

oh forgot, gfx card is HD5830

Hi, welcome to the fora.

There have been reported a number of mouse problems in 11.04. Does the mouse reappear if you pull the cable (I assume that you are using USB) and put it back in?

Another option is staying with 10.04 or 10.10 until support runs out. 11.04 still has its share of problems.

both ps2 and usb n/w however changing a setting on F6 worked with a different desktop - removing/replacing made no difference

You could try some more boot options. There are links from this post:

Though, frankly I doubt that there is an easy fix. As mentioned, this class of problems appears often in 11.04, and there is seldom a clean solution.

once in the OS I had the same problem, however updating the gfx drivers fixed it, so mouse is ok, the next problem is firefox keeps dissapearing :(
