I absolutely love Ubuntu, and despite it giving me headaches over hardware, I've learned much about computers (and life in general: never give up, there's always a solution!).

So as my thanks, I would love to help Ubuntu become better. But there's a problem: I am not a programmer, nor a musician, not even good with photo editing.

I like to write (and yes I've already contemplated adding to documentation, might take it up later when I know more).

But are there ways to improve Ubuntu that aren't the conventional "Make cool programs!" or "Make cool wallpapers/themes!"?

This guy could really use some help, if anyone cares.

And when your talking about conributing to an OS/Platform, all you really CAN do is write more cool programs/etc. In particular, stuff we don't have yet.

Have you thought about joining a LoCo in your area and participating in the activities that they have planned... or even help them out with some of their administrative duties?(and it you don't have a LoCo in your area then this is the perfect opportunity to start one.

Thanks for the link Thewhistlingwind, I'll look into that subject.

@not found Yeah I have considered joining a LoCo team, as there is one where I live. Maybe farther down the road I'll join.

What is wrong with giving help advice on this forum?

Each of us brings whatever knowledge and experience we already have from our lives apart from the computer. Add to it by reading the official documentation. Browse the forum posts and notice the common problems. Note the suggested solutions, especially the ones that work. Test the fixes out on your machine. Try to understand why something went wrong and why the solution worked. And away you go.

It is the way that I started and the way that I am carrying on. You can do this while you are investigating other ways of getting involved.

Regards.

Another small thing you can do if you have a decent internet connection: At the time of a new release, when Cannonical's servers are busy seed some torrents of the different install discs (so not only the version you need). Of course this is nowhere near a direct contribution to the OS or the documentation project or whatever but you do help expanding the Ubuntu community.
