Sometimes, when I search for something, I get this:

Showing results for 121 math course (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=rCc&pwst=1&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=X&ei=JfvyTfi0LoHksQPNpYXECw&ved=0CBcQvwUoAQ&q=biol+121+ubc&spell=1&biw=1024&bih=629). Search instead for 121 math course. (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=rCc&pwst=1&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=X&ei=JfvyTfi0LoHksQPNpYXECw&ved=0CBYQvgUoAA&q=bio+121+ubc&nfpr=1)

Why does that happen? Clicking on the link results in a slightly different list of results, but aren't the two searches textually exactly the same?

Toss your cookies! IOW, delete your internet history from your browser and see if that makes a difference. Google tries to anticipate WHAT you are looking for. Past history affects that anticipation considerably. In fact, many people who check to see if their site is #1 for a particular search criteria get fooled by these artifacts.

It shows that because that's in their search string:

1st: /search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=rCc&pwst=1&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=X&ei=JfvyTfi0LoHksQPNpYXECw&ved=0CBcQvwUoAQ&q=biol+121+ubc&spell=1&biw=1024&bih=629

2nd: /search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=rCc&pwst=1&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=X&ei=JfvyTfi0LoHksQPNpYXECw&ved=0CBYQvgUoAA&q=bio+121+ubc&nfpr=1

biol, 121 and ubc in the first (with a spelling argument)
bio, 121 and ubc in the second.

I think ubc is "University Berkeley, California".

You can make a link appear to go any where you want using the & tags in vBulletin.
