So, this is my first time using Linux, and I can't get it to even start up. After running the Ubuntu installation cd using default settings (install alongside Windows 7, leaving partition sizes at default) and rebooting, it goes straight to Windows. I've looked around and seen that you can reinstall grub by going into a live session - but when I try to do this, it just hangs on a black screen where I can move my mouse around, but nothing else. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Many thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forums :-)

what graphics card do you have installed?

give nomodeset a try.

if possible, try and run the boot info script before attempting anything else:
