Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, Is it possible to install 10.10 Maverick Merkat, no OS on the computer, and from there get the latest version ? Thank you. ldxrunner

yes , it should simply be a case of running the updates once installed , though I imagine it would be easier (and take less time + bandwidth) to download natty directly.

I agree.
I always do clean installs of Ubuntu. I never do upgrades; and I have been using Ubuntu for 6 years.
Doing a clean install is the most fail safe and least problematic method to get the latest and (hopefully!!) greatest Ubuntu version.
If you create a separate /home partition during the install, then all of your data and user settings are safe on a separate partition. This makes reinstalling Ubuntu quick and easy
