I was having some common problems installing ubuntu on my computer
I had the blank screen problem (no vga input on monitor). So I followed this:

Which worked! Great success! I was able to get logged into ubuntu and everything. I immediately went to install the required driver for my video card (I installed the recommended one) and upon reboot I once again had the no vga input blank screen problem
