Here is a little tip I discovered a few days ago, and I wrote as small guide:

I won't repeat it here so you can just read the article on my site ;)
It works very well for using old hardware. I have also tested this out with a live CD, and so even if you have a junk computer with no hard drive you have still use it. I'm sure there are programs that specifically do this, but since setting this all up takes about 5 minutes, I think that alone gives it an advantage.
