View Full Version : [ubuntu] Fatal hardware issue?

I am fairly new to linux. I just for the first time tried to install 11.04 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions) on my AMD Athlon 64 3400+ machine with bad results. After installation, ubuntu appears to be trying to display a box on-screen during startup, but it just flashes and quickly disappears. (It does this until I turn the machine off.)

I successfully ran both versions from CD before installing with no problems.

Attached is a photo I took of the screen at the end of the 64-bit installation process. I'm no expert, but my guess is that this means I have a fatal hardware issue.

Can someone with a little more knowledge please take a look at the picture and tell me if I'm right? Do I just need to toss this machine?

Thanks!

No, it does not look like a hardware problem to me. You could run memtest from the live CD, if you want to be sure.

I would recommend installing 10.10 Alternate for comparison.

Thanks for the tips. I'll figure out how to run memtest to rule that out first.
