View Full Version : Which Firefox theme do you use?

RAV TUX

I currently use:

Metal Lion - iCe 1.1
Mac and Metal Lion Meet.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2476/

I would really like to find a Ubuntu Human Theme that would blend well with my desktop. This would be great if Ubuntu had one and it was the default theme for firefox that came with the dapper. This is what Dreamlinux does with their studio edition and I have to say having the firefox come prebundled with a OS integration theme is quite nice.

I was searching for a Firefox theme that would blend well with Gnome and the Ubuntu human theme, unfortunately both that are supposed to blend just are not happening:

GNOME-Fx-Human 1.0.1
A theme that makes Firefox look as a native GNOME application in Ubuntu
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/505/

doesn't work with:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060513 Ubuntu/dapper Firefox/1.5.0.3

&

GNOME-Fx 1.5
A theme that makes Firefox look as a native GNOME application. It's a very complete theme, it has GNOME icons for almost all icons and even has icons for the menu items.
Blends in really well with the Default GNOME theme and the Ubuntu Human theme.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/360/

Just doesn't blend at all or look good with the Ubuntu Human theme.

There is also a theme for thunderbird now, but i use evolution now

i use sphere gnome (large). i like it for its gnome-ishness and some of the icons used. for example, the 'stop loading this page' icon is usually a big red cross, but when you put your mouse over it, turns into a full red apple. then if you press it, it turns into a red apple with a bite mar in it.

I normally use the default theme, but right now I'm using the nuoveXT theme and the CuteMenus Crystal SVG extension for purty menus. The nuoveXT "theme" is only buttons and icons though, the main interface is still default. Never seen any reason to change it.

The default is quite good and I find pretty much all the other commonly available themes unusable, except one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/130/
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/131/

I used to use this, but I went to the default because it looks better with the rest of my recent environment.

The minimalizist Breeze (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1335/) all the way. Interestingly enough, though I'm mainly an Opera man, I like the Firefox Breeze more than the Opera Breeze -- I think the ladder is a bit too compact for me.

I primarily use 708090-lite

I used that for a long time, but it stopped being updated for a while, so I switched to Breeze...which stopped being updated =\

EDIT: Ewwww. So I installed the 708090-lite theme and the buttons have gotten REALLY large (compared to what they were and what I'm using now.) I honestly only have 3 themed buttons visible on my entire window (back, forward and refresh [which doubles as a stop when a page is loading])...I just wish Breeze would start getting updates again D:

The problem I have with 708090 is that the buttons are all about 3 times as large as my current buttons...I tend to be VERY anal about screen real-estate (and I'm on a laptop now, so I'm even MORE conservative) Breeze's buttons are so tiny and out of the way...I use the TinyMenu extension to cram all of my menus into on small menu labeled "Menu", then I have my back, forward and refresh/stop button, then the address bar and I still have room for my stumble toolbar all on the very top Menu bar.

I'm loony :(

That helps, but the padding around the buttons is still far too large. I think I'll just stick with using the Nightly Tester Tools extension to force compatibility for Breeze. The only problem I run into is the fact that the add-on dialogs don't function properly (because 1.5 didn't have them lumped together like that, I suppose) but I change that stuff so infrequently that changing my theme, restarting, making the changes (and changing my theme back) then restarting is worth the trouble.

from smallest to largest:

Taking a second look GrayModern2 appears to be the most well developed of the three, I may stick with the GrayModern2 for a while again....

I always toggle between GrayModern2 and 708090-lite

The default firefox theme just doesn't seem to be well developed to me, at least in comparison to GrayModern2. The default theme appears to be as equally well developed to 708090-lite.

The icon padding is actually fairly large on that theme. The height of the navigation toolbar has a minimum size of the maximum of (The navigation icons, the location bar, the searchbar) This border (the padding) is visible by the fact that the separator between the file bar and the navigation toolbar is so far away from the location and search bars. My bar is approximately 4 pixels taller than the location bar with the Breeze theme, but it is incredibly large with the 708090 theme.

Attached is my toolbar using Breeze. I hope you can see what I mean.

I'm in it for the minimalistic nature of it as well. I just hope Breeze will get updated (or I'll just have to find the time to update it myself...I did that for a LONG time with 708090 and it just got to be a huge hassle.)
