Hi,

I deeply apologize if I posted this on the wrong forum.

I just bought a really old server and it didn't come with any documentations, hard disk drives nor anything. The only thing I found out is that it seems to have a SPARC CPU (Not sure how to check) and that it's still using an IDE HDD connection.

I bought a HDD and used dd to copy the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS SPARC ISO that I found online but it didn't do anything.

Does anyone know what I need to do to install ubuntu on my server?

Any help is appreciated

Thank you

All Sun hardware has tags with model & serial numbers. Best to start there and figure out exactly what you have first.
Then download the appropriate manuals on-line and read them.
Sparc hardware is completely different than Intel/AMD based servers
Read up on OpenBoot.

From your post I can't tell if you even have a hard drive or cd/dvd. Figure out all your hardware first.

This will not likely be a plug & play install. Part of the learning curve.

Attached is a cookbook I recorded for installing Ubuntu to my Sparc workstation.

Hope that helps point you in the right direction.

Care to upload a picture of the unit? I have a fascination with old Sun hardware. Ive got an e3500 6 proc unit sitting in my office right now lol.
