10.10 64 bit Gnome.

How I blew the on-board sound card on my Gigabyte "Ultra Durable" motherboard is a long story that I won't go in to here. Suffice to say that prior to said event, the machine worked beautifully.

Since that fateful time, I've had to use an Aureal Vortex card (I've tried versions 1 and 2) on the PCI bus. Obviously I've disabled the on-board card in the bios.

However, now playback of all video is stuttering and going out of sync. This includes MP3 files playback, audio only, no video, which is also choking. Actual transcoding is unaffected so I can edit media and publish it without a second thought. It is simply playing back. This includes all media players and also you tube in Firefox.

The processor itself doesn't seem to be overly concerned or overloaded.

Is it that the 1998 card is simply too slow on the PCI bus? It is the only card in there. I do have an Nvidea graphics card in the AGP slot.

There is nothing in messages that is obvious to me.

I got a Sound Blaster Audigy. That sorted it. :lolflag:
