View Full Version : [ubuntu] ubuntu 10.10 wont boot

hi so i updated from ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 and the instalation froze so i rebooted which got me no where, i ended up trying to just put 10.10 back which installs but doesnt boot, everytime i boot up my machine i either get a message saying

error: couldn't read file
error: you need to load kernel first
__________________________________

or i get

error: out of disk.
grub rescue>

Welcome to the Ubuntu forums.

You may or may not have a recoverable system, but for us to have any chance of knowing please download and extract the boot info script, run it, and post the contents of RESULTS.txt.

Added: You would do this from the Ubuntu LiveCD. Also, an 'out of disk' message may mean your BIOS is limited to seeing only a certain portion of your drive. On boot, you might open the BIOS setup and see what the system reports as your hard drive size (for the Ubuntu drive, if you have more than one).
