Ubuntu does not install hangs and exits with panic, switching to text console

Hi there,

I burned the CD and tried to dual install ubuntu on my desktop. After booting from the splash screen (this hangs for awhile) it exits to blank screen with verbose messages... and says panic, switching to text console.

my keyboard lights flash and i am unable to do anything. the thing is i actually got ubuntu 11.04 installed with the same CD (!!) on my laptop. Has anyone experienced this? this is the 32-bit install.

How does the computer behave in a 10.10 live boot?

Never tried older versions. I'm stuck now. Anyhow have a clue how to fix?

I got it installed... no idea why it wasn't getting past there.. after several tries it made it through (no idea why... i tried it again in the morning and it worked..) I'm now running 11.04
