well, i have just installed ubuntu natty narwhal on my ati radeon 6850 black edition. And what i get is some blurry two splitsed screen that are flashing very fast. I took my old graphic card nvidia 6800 putted it in, and tested it. Everything worked fine (just for display)? i've been re-installed 11.04 more then 4 times since i deleted fricking windows 7 and i've also tried installing 10.04 and updating manually to 11.04 but the same problem appears when i comes to the ati card when i put that in.
it also seems like by every try i've done the unity DASH never showed up and i installed the right version from main-website (ubuntu.com). after all the try's i just get the classic version of ubuntu what we've all seen in 10.10, 10.04, etc..

btw; Yes i have also tried downloading the ATI CCC Driver-finder but thing is how can i even make the ati ccc to find my ati card when im using my old one to just only get display and see what im doing.

Try to go to System-->Additional Driver. Then activate ATI driver if you see it there.
Good luck, and sorry if ti does not work for you but it did for me.
