View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installing Java6_25

Hey all, I am new to linux world, here I am trying to install java on Ubuntu 10.10, I have downloaded java from the www.java.com, version 6.25 and follow the instruction given on http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.xml#selfextracting, I have installed java in /usr/local/bin/. But when i am trying to use command like java, it shows the following message:
The program 'java' can be found in the following packages:
* gcj-4.4-jre-headless
* gcj-4.5-jre-headless
* openjdk-6-jre-headless
Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package>

Please help.

This (http://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/java) works great. GL :)

I just tried it myself because I had 24 instead of 25 and it worked 1st try. GL :)
