Hi,
Is it possible to tweak 11.04 to show the old toolbar at the top of the desktop page?

If I want to put apps on the desktop how do I do that from the apps page?

Yes, you just boot into Gnome Classic from the log-in screen. After that you pull icons to the desktop the same way as in 10.10.
