Does anyone know how to make the empathy message window have a transparent background, like what you can do in gnome-terminal?

I do not believe that is an option, as the GUI for the Empathy Instant Messenger is based off the GTK built into Ubuntu. I too hoped that this feature could be used, but I have yet to see anyway for this to take place. Sorry, and please keep me informed if you find anything saying otherwise.

The only way would be to use the rgba patched murrine engine and use a murrine theme set up to work with it, but that way you most probably would have transparent input fields on every gtk app. Certainly empathy has no such option.
