I was prompted to upgrade to 2.6.32-32-generic this morning, after the reboot, my system would not come up: After the initial boot, my left monitor simply displayed a bunch of noise, and the second monitor wasn't getting signal. After a second reboot, I just got a blank screen. I was able to boot into 2.6.32-31-generic.

Here's the output of lspci, fwiw:

I get a Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown - block
message so you are not the only one having problems. I would be interested in any replies to this.

Hm...I"m seeing a blank screen when I try to reboot... I typically don't see any messages in the graphical boot, so I"m curious as to where they would appear. I'm wondering if there's something that I can do to force output to the screen while booting, so that I can see if anything interesting is happening.

I am having the same problem with 2.6.32-32-generic, booting with 2.6.32-31-generic works fine. I am getting the same 'Kernel panic VFS message'. If I understand it right the kernel has problems with the root device, as 2.6.32-31 boots this probably means 2.6.32-32 looks at the wrong device.

However, even hardcoding root=/dev/sda5 (in my case), does not solve the problem.

Do anyone know if 2.6.32-33 works?
