Hello All,

I am quite new to ubuntu, when I try to upgrade or install some new packages, I am getting the following error, Could someone please help me to get rid of this problem.

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates multiverse

you need to remove these from your sources.list

The majority of your sources.list is "lucid" but those specific lines try to update for "jaunty", which is no longer available.

Thank you very much for your help, Now sudo ap-get update got updates successfully and
I am able to install the new packages after removing the following lines from source.list file

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates multiverse

But I am still facing the following problem in updating software sources.

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Please help me in this regard to resolve this problem.
