Is there a desktop environment that works like google maps? If not there should be. If Unity and Gnome 3 are the "modern desktop environment", then to me this seems years ahead of it's time. I can't count how many times this thought has occurred to me, it just seems so intuitive and obvious.
Imagine it, a single desktop with live zooming/panning. Instead of hotkeys to switch desktops, you would set hotkeys to different "locations" on the desktop. The switching animations would be flyovers. The possibilities for plugins is endless.
I personally would like middle-click to drag the desktop area around, and scroll up/down to zoom in/out.
Has anyone though of this? What do you guys think...?
