Problems with Ubuntu Software Center on Desktop 11.04

I have a problem with Ubuntu Software Center on my Desktop.
I just upgraded to 11.04 because I could not get the Software Center to work in the previous version. After the considerable time it took to upgrade I was sure I had solved the problem, I did not. Whenever I try to install something from there it just sits there and does nothing. Please Help

have you tried to clear it with a:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

maybe synaptic-package-manager would work instead

sudo apt-get synaptic
