i've tried over 20 times now with the usb install and nothing seems to work
i can't even run ubuntu via usb?

my entire screen fills up with moving text way to fast to read.
eventually it gets slow near the end and tried to create or read from directories etc/hosts?
and a few others and it says Missing file or Folder, or Directory does not exist errors

then it just stalls to some text like <lvmbys> or something where i have to ctrl+alt+del to restart.

if anyone has any ideas? the original usb_creator didn't work for me so i had to use another system "Universal USB-Installer-1.8.5.1" set for 11.04.

I'm basically a Linux noob but trying to learn as i go. Fedora was a quick process
and i've used ubuntu before. but not when windows is installed.

Are you trying to dual-boot? If so, there are plenty of tutorials with how to do this properly.

I haven't quite used a flashdrive before...though I found a tutorial (http://blog.sudobits.com/2011/04/23/how-to-install-ubuntu-11-04-from-usb-or-cd/) you could use to compare your method with.

Tutorial (http://techolic.co.cc/2011/05/11/proper-ubuntu-and-windows-dual-boot-how-to/) for XP/Ubuntu dual boot.

...and something else to keep in mind (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1159622).

I'm having the same problem. I'm not trying to dual boot, I'm just attempting to overwrite windows 7 as my main operating system. I downloaded the .iso from ubuntu.com, and created a USB drive to boot from. I restarted, booted from the USB, and chose Install Ubuntu to the hard drive. It went through the process, gave me the ubuntu loading screen, then a huge wall of text and commands. It freezes after a while, and I have to restart. I tried simply running Ubuntu from the USB, and the same thing happens. This is really confusing, since I've run Ubuntu 11.04 on this pc before, and from a USB drive.

Sound like USB port is not good. You will want to burn .iso into CD then it should not be problem.
