When I run Sims3 in Wine, the game happily switches video
mode and runs fullscreen... but the global menu bar doesn't
autohide, and there's no way to get it to hide manually.

I've checked the Unity plugin in the compiz settings control
panel, but there don't seem to be any settings at all for the
global main menu there.

Hi,look in my signature below this text and the 2 middle links check them out they talk about how to hide or disable the bar and side bars.

Thanks for the links... but I guess what's I'm after is
understanding why (say) web browsers properly hide the
global menu when you take them fullscreen with f11,
but Wine games (or, at least, sims3) don't hide the global
menu when they run fullscreen.

Perhaps this question is better suited for a bug report,
I'll probably file one at some point.
