hi, i installed Lubunut on my dell d610 ( which runs SMOOTHLY )
Then i went to install on my dell d600, which gave me messages like this...

What graphics card is installed on the machine in question?

What happens when you type startx at the prompt and then Enter?

i dont know what kind of graphic card, but its the default one placed inside the laptop..

and when i typed the word it was live instead of startx

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by this:
when i typed the word it was live instead of start

You can try setting some parameters at boot time:

when i said " live" i meant that i put that in to make it run form the usb

That's confusing...

I don't think you understand. "startx" starts the X window manager, which is what the entire GUI rests upon. Also, if you hold down 'esc' for too long during the purple screen, it will leave graphic mode and enter text mode. Are you sure you didn't do this?

Also, could you give us a link to your computer on Amazon or its manufacturer's page? If its a graphics card issue, this can help us.

I had this problem when running the Lubuntu 64 bit Live CD. I had to restart the Live CD and pump F6 and choose nomodeset to get the graphics to work. Then it looked funny, but it did run. I didn;t install Lubuntu so I can't tell you if you will have problems installing it from there or not. Good luck.
