This is kind of as a 'balancer' for my other running thread installing Ubuntu on my laptop (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1767144)

Laptop is currently in for service as I suspect it may be hardware, and not Ubuntu related.

On this machine though, a Dell Inspiron 530 Quad Core, life is a dream.

I've installed shed loads of great packages now with no problems - it is Rock Solid. With capitals, yes.

Even running Win7 x64 Ultimate through VMware Player is no problem.

I've installed :
Gimp
Inkscape
Numerous Firefox addons
Scribus
Nebeans
Filezilla
Wine > 1password
Dropbox
VMware player > Win7
Amarok (will ditch this though - Rhythmbox pumps out all my m4a / itunes stuff no probs)

I'm a big fan of Widniows 7 Ultimate - obviously a big improvement on Vista (not a difficult thing - improving on Vista).

But I'm amazed at how efficient linux ubuntu is. This box used to absolutely burn running Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Could have cooked my breakfast on it.

Ubuntu runs all the apps above concurrently (VMware player limited to 1Gb) and only chews approx 2Gb Ram.

Wonderful. I'm in love.

Just hope the guys at the shop come back and say my laptop has a faulty something-or-other that can be replaced easily, then I can go Ubuntu on that too....

Happy days guys, great work.
