After reading the problems people have had with 11.4...most of which I've had...
I've concluded that 11.4 is just not ready for prime time.
I'd like to run system restore..if I could find it..
Right now, 11.4 occludes the drop down menus...blocks them with geometrical patterns of purple.
What can I do to delete 11.4 and go back to 10.8?

You would have to reinstall an earlier version of Ubuntu. I suggest you go with 10.04 since this is the long term supported verion (LTS). Ubuntu 11.04 is way too buggy for me, this is why I've gone with Kubuntu 11.04.

Marl30 is correct , you will have to reinstall . I think the Linux mind set is a little different in terms of system restore because it is expected that the user be thoughtful about what they do. As for 11.04/ Unity I have had no problems at all and 10.10 was also problem free.
