Looks like I waited too long to upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. Now the Update Manager wants to take my system to 10.04, but then says it is 'not supported with this tool'. Do I need to do a complete re-install of the OS? Is there a reasonable way to get to 9.10 without a complete re-install? Any help appreciated.

Why not upgrade to 10.04. It's LTS and very stable. I'm not sure how you would be able to get to 9.10 without a complete reinstall. Hopefully someone else know better than I.

Hello and welcome to the forums,

9.10 is no longer supported (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases) either. I recommend backing up data and running a clean install of 10.04LTS, which is supported until April 2013.
