I just noticed two pieces of linux software "sponsored by Novell".

Banshee music player and F-spot picture organiser. Both seem very slick and seem to be written to mono.

Are there any other 'Novell' packages?
I can understand them sponsoring business like packages, but home users style ones?

Beagle, F-Spot, Banshee and iFolder are the main Novell Mono efforts. The reason they're pushing Mono is because they're the maintainers (well, they bought Ximian who created Mono) and they want it to be an alternative to Java.

Both of these programs are written in Mono and Novell is (one of?) the sponsors for the Mono Project.
from the Mono Project website (http://www.mono-project.com/)
Mono provides the necessary software to develop and run .NET client and server applications on Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, Windows, and Unix. Sponsored by Novell (http://www.novell.com), the Mono open source project has an active and enthusiastic contributing community and is positioned to become the leading choice for development of Linux applications.
If you want to see what else is written in Mono they have a listing here (http://www.mono-project.com/Software). Which ones are specifically sponsored by Novell I don't know.

Mono shows a lot of promise. I think it's cool that it can tap into the number of MS programmers out there who feel stuck in Windows because of .NET!

I've heard so much about Banshee and F-Spot, but when I decided to try them, they tried to pull in over 40MB's of dependencies. Screw that.

If I would be a software developer, would Stallman be more happier if I would use Java or Mono?
