Heavy Windows user, trying to make the jump to Ubuntu.

Currently compiling a video, but I am facing a problem that I don't know how to fix. I am encountering this problem in both 10.04 and 11.04.

It seems that any video editing program I use lags greatly when adding effects to a clip, or making any changes for that matter (I have used both OpenShot and Kdenlive and have encountered this problem)

This lag includes skipping in the video, audio pops and crackling.

Any suggestions as to where to start?

I am having this problem exactly. Soooo, annoying. Just have tried flowblade which is awesome editor and same thing happens. To give more precise desc: when you cut somewhere in video, when playing in editor after that part you can here some kind of ultra speed reverb. ****** as hell. This makes me go to windows all the time since I heavily use video editing every day.
