Can't get graphic with nvidia video

I had everything working well with Ubuntu 10.04 but gave in to the update to 11.04. After installation grub was not readable when starting the computer enabling me to use Ubuntu but nothing else.

I then tried installing from cd for 11.04, 10.10, and 10.04. While working with the live cd, all recognized my display system. However, when installed, all of them gave me script and I do not know how to get graphic display.

I have done: sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. Now I get graphics but no response to the mouse.

I have now determined that the keyboard works. I can now navigate using the keypad. If somebody would kindly tell me how to activate my mouse, I can get back to where I started and forget about all updates.

I tried again with Ubuntu 10.04. This time I allowed it to format and lost all my files. With this change everything worked properly. Now I will try 11.04.

The same thing did not work with Ubuntu 11.04. This is what I got when I rebooted after installation:

error: file not found
grub rescue>

I will stick with 10.04.
