Yes - a question mark error is really what I get :D
But first, a little background... I broke my previous Natty install by installing and (worse) trying to remove GNOME 3. This was because it didn't like the proprietary ATI graphics driver too much, but I needed the driver to keep my laptop from setting fire to itself.
I'm currently trying to reinstall Natty, which is part of a dual-boot with Windows 7. I tried to use the installer to replace natty, but I got an error saying that it couldn't copy the bootloader accross. The window which asked if I want to install it somewhere else essentially froze so I couldn't use it (the buttons clicked but nothing happened). After that, I tried again and got this:

And I thought Windows errors were ambiguous :D
I then went to GParted to see what was wrong, as the question mark error came up on the "scanning filesystems" stage or something like that. Gparted showed a messy and seemingly broken version of what the installer was supposed to have done (my windows partitions also had the broken symbol next to them). I corrected them to this

but it took a few attempts to get it there - as I got this error each time I clicked apply and only one change got applied each time.

I went back to the installer, and set my partitions to this

And I seem to get either the question mark error or the bootloader error each time I try it. I tried to fix the bootloader error by changing it's install location to the Ubuntu install location.
But I keep getting question mark errors still...

I'm installing from the Ubuntu live CD (11.04). Despite the apparent errors on the NTFS file system (according to the GParted screenshot) it actually mounts and opens fine as long as I reboot my computer. Now might be a good time to back it up, I think :D
Please help me - I can't boot into either OS like this. I know I can reinstall GRUB to access Windows, but I'd rather get Ubuntu installed properly than have to use Windows all the time.
