View Full Version : [ubuntu] 11.04 upgrade has left me without keyboard or mouse

After a software update I appear to be without the use of my keyboard and mouse (wireless, single dongle).

Which is annoying as it's quite hard to diagnose without them. It works fine through the bootloader etc, it seems to be as soon as x starts. It also works fine when I boot a live CD or into Windows and in BIOS.

Are there any known issues?

While I don't have hard figures, local lore is that as many as 50% of those who upgraded have had issues.

In the end, the least painful solution is a clean install of natty.

Here is the method I used to install Natty over my 10.10 install with a minimum of muss and fuss:

If you have your data in a separate '/home' partition you can reinstall 11.04 over your upgraded 11.04 '/' partition without harming the data on your '/home' partition:

First, define your '/' (root) partition:

Then define your '/home' partition:

IF YOU ARE DOING AN UPGRADE,DOWNGRADE OR REINSTALL DO NOT FORMAT THIS PARTITION!

This separates your documents and 'stuff' from the system files and 'stuff' in the '/' partition.

p.s. To learn how to move your '/home' into it's own partition: SeparateHomePartition (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/separatehome)
