View Full Version : [ubuntu] 11.04 and Update Manager Error Message

May 24th, 2011, 04:49 PM
Hi everyone

I'm a Ubuntu amateur user, I just upgraded from 10.04 to 11.04.

First of all, I can't log into 11.04 "ubuntu with effects", it just freezes. Is there anyway I can just go back to 10.04 and uninstall 11.04? I don't like the new design anyway. Can I boot the computer with a usb ready to install 10.04 again?

Second of all, when I log in "classic ubuntu without effects" (the only one I can besides safe-mode), the update manager gives me the following message:

'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/dk.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_restricte d_binary-i386_Packages'

What should I do?

Thanks everyone

Hi, welcome to the fora.

If you want to repair your 11.04 installation, running

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
should do the trick.

If you want 10.04 back, the only option is a fresh install.
