upgade has broken the system

I upgraded 10.10 to 11.04. All was going nice until I have seen that installation needs more than 1 hour and left the sit before the computer. I have came back in a few hours and
found the grub screen with old picture. But it is impossible to boot the system because the
/boot directory is empty!
Is it possible to recover the system or to do not waste time and to start to install the system from zero?

I have found the solution - I have created DVD with 11.04 which has the option "upgrade" (10.10 has no it). It seems me my previous applications are alive!
