After seeing some of the cool Unity Desktops, thought I wouldn't mind seeing what various users have done with their Xubu Desktops. Here's my own:

Thanks, I completely forgot about that. I only remembered the Unity thread.

Here's mine. I have dual screens, 20" and a 15". I don't have anything special or different. I shrunk the bottom panel and always have it showing, as it's only slightly larger than the top panel. I usually change wallpapers once a week or so just to give it some new flavor.

I have two designs. Both are very unoriginal, but I like them both. One is retro and professional, and one is dark and futuristic.

Mine currently looks like this...

Somewhat of a work in progress.

Hi. I'm planning to install Xubuntu in the future (more accurately 12.04 LTS) and I have some questions about this.
First of all, does Xubuntu use any compositing window manager by any means (like compiz)? I'm having some issues with my laptop that would always crash when using a composite window manager, and in order to take the big step to Xubuntu, I want to know about this little aspect.
Secondly, is theme customisation easy? Like in GNOME, I select the colors for window background, input boxes, selected items, tooltips, etc.

That's all for now, thanks.

xfce has in the window manager setting a tick with what you can turn on compositing... and make your windows move nice and smooth and with some nice transparency :)

check out xfce-look.org for different themes and customisation

I have always found that xfce provides very nice interface :D check it out in virtualbox first

And mine...

What Icons did you use in the bottom panel (or dock)? I like the monochromatic icons on darker screens.

Loved the retro Windows 2000.

You can turn off compositing in Xubuntu. Applications --> Settings --> Settings Manager --> (Then) Setting Manger Tweaks --> Compositor --> (And then uncheck) Enable Display Compositing

The only annoying thing to me is that I can't make the panel transparent because the indicator applet stays opaque, and with some themes the applet has the color of a selected item... Other than that xfce-look really is good for themes and window decorations..
