Can any one tell me is there a 64 bit Desktop version of 10.10 Ubuntu that will work for my i7-950 Intel processor ?????????????????? If so where can I find the specific iso down load .

Does the Ubuntu-10.10 desktop amd64 iso work ?????????????


Any Help would be greatly appreciated

I couldn't tell ya if 10.10 64bits will work on you specific computer. You can try and download it from www.ubuntu.com burn it to cd and try. If it boots and runs to the live desktop, there is a good chance it will work on your computer.

BTW the terms "i386" and "amd64" can be confusing. They are historical names that have nothing to do with whether your uP is made by Intel or AMD. I don't know why Canonical doesn't just tag the releases as "32-bit" and "64-bit".
And, needless to say, a 64-bit uP will run a 32-bit OS. The advantages of 64 may not be very great, depending on what sort of apps you use. 64 also uses twice the RAM.

If you have the very newest Intel processor, you need the newest version of Linux kernels.

It looks like phoronix installs newest and even then adds newest kernel available and other newer software to make it work. Read the similar reviews of i5 & i3 processors as he discusses Intel new version processors in general.
