So what does everyone think of the new series? My opinion is that it's absolutely for adults only. But it's funny he used to criticize some shows on HBO before he got his own. Don't think we will be hearing any more of that.

I love the story and all the politics, though I could do with a bit more fighting action.
However, the nudity and sexuality is too much. It doesn't add anything valuable to the series, it just makes it awkward to watch it. If the nudity doesn't cut down in the next season, I will likely quit watching it because it's cutting it really close to porn. Also, the nudity isn't tastefully done in the least. It's completely unnecessary for the story and quality of the series. If you can't portray emotions without taking clothes off, you can't direct or write.

But I do enjoy the drama and story portion. :)

I like that it is not a Flintstones type of cheesy medieval story in a socially modern world where people just dress differently, have swords in place of guns and use horses instead of cars. Or like other moves when a hero can slay 100 enemies and not get even a trace of blood on his sword.

The movie well portraits the moral backwardness of a medieval world and I think the excessive nudity does help enforce that.

I'm inclined to agree, although I can see what they're trying to portray with it. However, it's been done a lot better. Rome had plenty of nudity, but it was relevant and to a degree you couldn't have honestly portrayed Roman life without it. It just feels a bit gratuitous and awkwardly handled in Game of Thrones.

Apart from that, it's a pretty good show. Sean Bean is good in it, although playing a grim northerner is probably not his most taxing role ever...

I watched it with few friends that had read the books so I got a running commentary which was very useful, specially for the initial minutes of the first episode. From what I could hear from them the nudity is absolutely crucial for the characters and the historical feel to this era it is supposed to portray.
My girlfriend haven't watched it yet but I look forward to watching this with her. I will not feel embarrassed watching this with them. I might if I would be watching this with my grandparents.

But are you serious that you would rather want more gore and less nudity? If I would be walking on the street and could choose if I'd want to see people getting killed or being nude I dont have to think about which one is normal and healthy and which one is evil evil evil evil.

Yes, I would prefer some gore over nudity, not because that's what I want to see in reality but because tv fighting is more like dancing with all the choreography. Although the fighting in episode 5 didn't look very good, it was a bit bland, but it was okay.

Now I'm fine with sensuality, and some nudity done well. However, this nudity is simply plain awkward, and feels like nudity for the sake of nudity. For instance in ep.5 you go from a boy talking about rather serious life issues to two people having sex, showing full frontal male and female genitalia in a purely sexual manner without any deeper meaning behind it. I've seen plenty of nudity, so it's not a shocker, I just prefer to see adult themes handled well.
There are ways to show things in a more thematic manner without cheapening the feel, and thus far I am not impressed with the way HBO is handling it.

Do you demand deeper meaning in the violence you see?
I'll tell you the only meaning for the violence and nudity in a tv show: entertainment. Personally I'm enjoying both.
Your view on this strikes me as very American: violence is fine, but sex and nudity have to play by a different set of rules.
Personally I'd much prefer my kids see nudity rather than violence (not that they watch GoT).

Newsflash: naked bodies are part of daily life everywhere...;)

I tend to agree...and I'm even an American. There seems to be quite the hangup with nudity here. There can be loads of gore, blood, stabbing, people getting their heads cut off and people are fine with it but show a little skin and some get freaked out.

I've seen similar comments about HBO's True Blood. That show must bring in semi-trucks full of fake blood for every season and yet it's the nudity and sex that some complain about. :D

Graphic violence and gore is no more/less necessary than nudity and sexuality but there seems to be a double standard at play.

As long as it is not as bad as Caligula..

I will probably only give this a watch since I am a huge fan of Sean Bean.

I know, I was referring to "couldn't portray Roman life without it". I mean you can't portray anywhere without it.

Well, i'd have to disagree with you on that one. Attitudes to sex and nudity are very different these days.

Yes, attitudes are a lot less healthy, I'm sure... ;)

I don't think this show has really figured out what it is about. Some parts are really interesting while others are a buzz kill. I hope that next season the writers sort out a more coherent plot line.

The screenwriter is also the author of the books, so I'm pretty sure he knows what the plot line is :D

Also, the show is much better than the books, which suffer from mildly archaic writing when it comes to descriptions and such.

The show has been renewed for a second season. So the sex and violence worked. But the sex is a little on the excessive side. They for sure put in at least two extra sex scenes that weren't in the book. Also in last weeks episode they put in some sex stuff that I don't remember reading. They could alienate female fans of the series.

Alienate female fans because of sex???? Yeah, that happened with True Blood... oh, wait.

No, it didn't.

It's definitely not alienating my girlfriend from the series. She likes the show more than I do.
