Mouse Problem

I installed 9.10 on a Toshiba Satellite L15 S104 (40GB hdd, 512 RAM) as a 10 dot will not install.
After install I did standard updates. All went well. I then did a few updates from Synaptic. When completed the mouse was in a runaway state.
I did a complete reinstall and the mouse was still in the runaway state.
Any help appreciated.

Something messed with the computer's drivers as the wireless had also gone out. No linux solution was found so XP was reinstalled and mouse and wireless are working again.
