Hi

I'm thinking of studying computing properly and just wondering if anyone can recommend me some good place to start.

I personally think that I wish to study hardware first before learning OS/network/any software or programming language.

any ideas?

any suggestions are welcome even if it's not about hardware..
I guess i'm more interested in how things are structured and work, rather than learning how to do/fix things.

If you're going to study hardware, I would suggest reading CPU manuals. That tells you as much about "computing" as anything.

This (http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Systems-Programmers-Randal-Bryant/dp/013034074X) book is pretty good as far as computer architecture goes.

If I remember correctly it uses C in some of the examples (as well as some assembly in the chapter on CPU architectures).

Edit: I am also a big fan of this (http://www.amazon.com/Linux-Programming-Unleashed-Kurt-Wall/dp/0672320215/) book too, though it is more aimed at someone who already has a fair idea of how to program.

Did you have a career in mind?

Would help to specialize as computers as a topic covers a lot of ground.

do you mean that its knowledge required in many fields?
true..

I'm a kind of slacker..
I think I'm interested in pretty many things
but don't wanna be specialized in any particular one.:(
Just like doing things that I like to do in each moment.
though days I can manage myself in this way
seems to have come to an end:)
