Hello,

I am in the same situation as the OP. Just installed Ubuntu for the first time (the Windows dual boot app) and the connexion is extremely slow. My computer is an Acer 5740G laptop with an Atheros AR5B93 Network Adapter.

Yes. I agree. Is it wired or wireless? Its been a while for me using ubuntu (7 months) and i have ZERO issues as regarding to internet speed. My internet connection is through ethernet.

it is going through wireless. i tried disabling that thing you mentioned, and my speeds are better, and about half what they should be. when i was using windows i would average 1.1-1.5 mb/s right now im at around 500 kb/s

Traceroute to a domain your trying to access?

Also, maybe it's your DNS settings? Some DNS servers are slow, and changing them may improve your speeds.

Could you provide a bit more detailed information regarding what you consider a slow internet connection?
I mean, how do you measure it?
Like it was suggested here in this thread you should measure your DNS response. If for some reason you have slow response from the DNS servers than Web browsing would feel like kind of slow. So you need to check on that.
If for some reason you have slow response from you Default Gateway it would be the same thing.
If you provide more details about your connectivity I could be a little bit more specific.
