Really beating my head against teh wall with this one. How do I change icons for certain file types? TheOOo icons displayed in Nautilus look almost the same to me so I want to go with more distinctive looks between Calc, Writer, etc. I thought I could replace the icons in /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/mimetypes, but it's not working. A Calc doc is listed as

"OpenDocument Spreadsheet (application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet)"

under properties in Nautilus. So I go to the mimetypes folder & change it, but Nautilus doesn't change.

Its changed in the launcher and in the main menu. Nautilus doesn't always notify you an icon has changed when its definitely been changed.

Please see this guide:

Of course, you have to adapt the instructions to your system-wide installation.

Greetings.
