I hope this is the right spot for this question.

I installed 11.04 and, after the installation was complete, I've been running it as a headless server with an Ethernet connection direct to the router. Everything is stock except for some software updates since the installation.

However, recently when I try to move files on the desktop from any folder to another, it restarts the desktop environment. If it does that two or three times, the entire screen starts to flash off and on endlessly. When I tried reconnecting to a monitor, it continues to do this. I need to do a hard reboot and then it's okay until I start moving files around.

It's an older P4 dual-core 3GHz with 2GB of memory and an Intel 815 integrated graphics card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
