Hi,

I'm new to this (my excuse and I'm sticking by it, however easy the problem may turn out to be). I've recently got a new laptop and have installed 10.10 to get away from windows. Having so far had success with it I decided to install it on my old desktop to as it's an old 20gb thing now running pretty slowly and I thought it might make it faster.
Having installed 10.10 from CD I got the 'Out of range' bit from my monitor on rebooting. I trawled some forums and reinstalled after having done 'e', 'f6' and down to 'nomodeset' in grub as suggested. It installed successfully, but on rebooting asked me for login and password and took me to a terminal ie. iaintatam@supergibbon ~$ rather than to a desktop/operating system/platform (whatever it's called : ) ).
Any ideas?
