Hey there,

So from day 1 I installed gnome 3, which I perfectly like. But I'd like to have the option of switching between gnome 3 and Unity.

Is this possible already? I know it wasn't possible at first, but maybe can be done now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The last I read Gnome 3 was supposed break unity . The reason is Unity runs on Gnome 2.xx , so I don't think it will be possible until 11.10 .

Just to try to clarify this ......

If Gnome 2.32 is used .....

Gnome-Shell and Unity will switch and work together to a degree ....

A one way switch into UNITY stays stable .....

but going back again ... into Gnome Shell works but >>> the system does not remain stable ......

( but it was a good idea and had some fun trying it out )

Gnome3-Session - strange way to name it but this is actually 2.32

Gnome Shell and Unity >>> can be switched just the one way as shown below.

Dual Monitor switching GnomeShell to UNITY >>>> VIDEO 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OYeXE85QuM&feature=related)

Single monitor switching GnomeShell to UNITY >>>> VIDEO 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGtRZDPzops)

Would consider this as a good idea if the speed in switching can be improved
and it could work both ways consistently .......

As there are things in both Unity and Gnome-shell that I like.

Gnome-session - ( which is actually version 3 ) will not switch at the present time

The very latest versions Gnome-Session that have 3.0.0 after them cannot
switch though ..... the sad face error comes up ...... :(

This is as of testing it today ..... but things change so quickly ..... ;)
